The program is a new partnership developed by the award-winingF.A.C.<\/b>, Brooklyn Workforce Innovations<\/b>, Red Hook Initiative,<\/b> and Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation<\/b> to reduce poverty by providing free job training and placement, adult education, and family support services, including legal and financial advice, benefit counseling, and tax preparation for public housing residents in Red Hook and Gowanus.<\/p>\n

More than 30 borough movers and shakers were present at the program\u2019s launch last month, including Councilmen Carlos Menchaca<\/b>, (D-Sunset Park), Stephen Levin <\/b>(D-Boerum Hill), and Brad Lander<\/b> (D-Gowanus), as well as program partners and participants.<\/p>\n

Councilman Lander explained the importance of the initiative for community residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cStronger Together stands poised to lift over 1,200 people out of poverty through new opportunities in education, employment, and job placement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
